When I was young and playing little league baseball, my grandfather took me to a Cleveland Indians game. It was my first pro game.
Since I played 3rd base and pitched, I idolized Baltimore’s Brooks Robinson and Jim Palmer. This crushed my grandfather. But he let me cheer for the other team. And I saw his disappointment.
During the game, with the Tribe losing, the fans still cheered them on. I asked my grandfather why people were cheering for a losing team. He said they cheered because they were the home team. The local favorites. Good or bad, they were our Tribe.
Ever since that day some 36 years ago, I have ridden the roller coaster seasons, I am a Tribe fan.
